Post-Brexit, European language skills will be in ever-increasing demand.
Foreign language skills play a vital role in enhancing employability and mobility. Multilingualism also improves the competitiveness of the EU economy.
In 2017, the European Commission highlighted that around one fifth to a quarter of jobs in the EU required an advanced level of foreign language skills.
The English Institute is proud to offer A1 courses (11 to 14 years old) in French, Spanish and German (beginner level) starting September 2022.
Registrations are now open. Classes will take place, Monday and Wednesday between 3.00 pm and 4.30 pm.

Learning a language is all fun and games!
Learning French, Spanish or German should never be a chore. This is why our language courses are designed to be enjoyable and entertaining.
Students will be learning the language at an A1 level in two years and will do so through games, songs and interactive activities.
The course will be delivered by English School teachers and will allow students to:
- Understand and use very common everyday expressions and simple phrases for immediate needs.
- Introduce themselves and other people and can ask and answer questions about personal details, such as where they live, things they have and people they know.
At the end of the two-year course, they will have the opportunity to take the A1 certificate and move on to the next level.
These courses are open to children aged 11 to 14 years old.
Teachers will be using textbooks, which have been designed specifically for children learning the language at an A1 level.

Our primary intention at the English Institute is to meet all our students’ needs and ensure they obtain the qualifications they need for their future studies at University. In a move to further develop and enhance our curriculum offer to students, we have recently reviewed our courses and are currently offering three qualifications in the Higher Levels. IGCSE English as a Second Language FCE for schools and IELTS Academic.
IGCSE English as a Second Language
- The IGCSE English is a highly respected official high school qualification that can act as the gateway to further academic studies.
- It develops a learner’s ability to understand and use English in a range of situations.
- It focuses on practical communication for everyday use, which can also form the basis for further, more in-depth language study.
- Most government bodies in Cyprus accept the IGCSE qualification.

A1 French, Spanish and German courses (for beginners)

A1.2 Spanish lessons
This course is the one offered after the first year of Spanish. To join this course you should have achieved a level of language profiency equivalent to A1.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. You should have studied similar or equivalent content, skills and vocabulary practised in A1.1 Take this course to:
- Understand simple questions spoken at below-normal speed
- Give opinions and reason. Expressing likes, dislikes and interests
- Ask and answer about the weather, the time and the seasons
- Talk about habits, daily and weekly routine
- Understand quantifiers and express frequency
- Teachers will be using textbooks, which have been designed specifically for children learning the language at an A1 .2 level.
