The International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) – formely known as European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) — is the world’s leading computer skills certification. It demonstrates that the holder has the essential knowledge and confidence to use everyday computer applications efficiently, both at work and at home.
At The English School Institute, ICDL is offered as a modular two-year programme, allowing students to progress through two levels and build their digital skills gradually.
ICDL 1 is a one-year (September – June) introductory programme leading to the ICDL Base Certificate, providing students with essential digital competencies required for school, university, and everyday use of technology. During this level, students complete the four core modules: Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Computer Essentials, and Online Essentials. The course focuses on building confidence in using computers, managing files, working safely online, and creating professional digital documents and spreadsheets.
Upon successful completion of ICDL 1, students may progress to ICDL 2, which is also a one-year programme (September – May) leading to the ICDL Standard (Full ICDL) Certificate (4 Base modules + 3 Additional modules = 7 modules in total). This level expands students’ digital knowledge beyond the core modules by introducing additional areas such as Presentations, Databases, and Online Collaboration tools. The programme aims to strengthen students’ practical ICT skills and prepare them for higher education, modern workplaces, and professional digital environments.
The ICDL qualification is designed to improve digital literacy and productivity, making it an excellent foundation for students, professionals, and anyone who wants to strengthen their technological skills.
